So Safari is harder on the transmission because there is more slip than "usual"? Is that a correct assumption?

If there is anything I appreciated today, it was FX Demaison's honest interview on DirtFish.
His perspectives were enlightening and frankly a tad too honest, I felt.
We now know how limiting the rules are, jokers aside. Also, how critical the initial design phase is if you are to build a successful vehicle.

Like he said in that video.. either drive over the rock and see what happens next or avoid the rock and go straight off. He chose 1st one. Also there wasn't any ,,too much'' cutting..

By now Tanak has a very long history of cars breaking at the front end due to "bad luck". Yaris, Puma, i20, doesn't matter.
Sure sometimes there is some luck involved but his driving style and particularly his "dive in" front-end setup with front bumper scratching the ground also likely plays a role. Last year both Neuville and Lappi even commented on it. (setting the car so soft it always "crashed trough").
Here the launch up was certainly more massive than what would seem normal.
