GR Yaris - could it be a cool CupCar?
Toyota have made a homologation special in the GR Yaris. It is a long time ago, that a manufacturer have dared to make a "Rally car" for petrolheads.
The car have received top notch judgement from journalists and others that have tried it. A real drivers car!
I am guessing this will be the base for the Rally3 car Toyota is making.
There are as I write this many tuning firms that makes tuning parts for this car, that is one of the few that drivers love to play with, on the track, on snow and gravel. This car will become an icon!
But, can the base car be the basis for Yaris Cups around in the world?
Some good coilovers, and new exhaust, and a small chipupdate if needed.
with the base price this car has, it could be a huge success, also in cups!Last edited by Sulland; 24th December 2020 at 16:59.

Rally 2, more probably. GR Yaris roadcar is showing similar numbers to it already, Rally 3 a lot less.

All works Japanese Yaris GR retired on Shinshiro rally, they were also rather slow but I don't know what are the Japanese rules and neither know I anything about the drivers.

I noticed that too. There were two works Yaris, driven by Norihiko Katsuta (Takamoto's father, 8 times national rally champion) and Tomoyuki Shinkai (I know nothing about him). Katsuta retired on SS1, Shinkai retired on SS3 while fighting against Kovalainen's GT86 R3...
I'm not sure about the classes either, just that up until last year JN-1 was the main class, basically only Mitsubishi and Subaru... this year it seems they allowed other cars as well, there were also 2 Fabia R5, which ended in 3rd and 4th. 1st and 2nd were Hiroki Arai and his father, with 2 Subaru WRX, which probably are faster than FIA N4 Subaru...

Hans Weijs drove one as frontcar at a Dutch rally last week. His times were comparable to group N Evo X’s.
He has intentions to make a cup of it next year.

At 19:15 Saturday, the FIA are announcing a new WRC event for 2025 at Sardegna. The event, I don't know - perhaps Paraguay.
